Spring Forward With a Positive Attitude! Tools You Can Use Now to Help.

There Is Power In a Positive Attitude.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”-Willie Nelson

Dear Negative Thoughts,

We’re just not good for each other.  I’ve decided we need to break up.   I’m moving on and replacing you with Positive Thoughts!

Sincerely,

Negative Nelly

Life happens! There will always be stressful, challenging times throughout our lives.  Stress is a natural part of life and we all experience it. However, your mind is an incredibly powerful tool and with a little exercise, even the most negative of Nelly’s can turn their thought process around.

We all have the power to create a positive atmosphere through what we believe, think and choose.  A positive and optimistic attitude will help to diffuse stressful situations and help cope with life’s biggest challenges.  How we choose to respond to those challenges will make all the difference in the world, not only to you but to everyone else around you too.

Below are a few exercises to train your brain to spring ahead with a positive attitude:

Exercises to train your brain to stay positive:

  1. Take care of your body.  A healthy plant-based diet and regular exercise will nourish the body, boost your mood, support your detox organs and keep your lymph’s moving.
  2. Practice positive affirmations first thing in the morning. They will set the tone for your day inspiring you to change the way you think.  Speak kindly to yourself.  Stand up straight and walk with confidence.
  3. Savor life’s joys.  Don’t look back. Practice living in the moment. Whatever you enjoy, do more of it.
  4. Avoid over thinking. Come to terms with the situation and/or your decision.  Focus on a solution and not the problem or focus on your attitude and efforts. Maybe simply change your activity to redirect your thinking.
  5. Have gratitude.  Be thankful for all the good things in your life.  Make a list. Keep a gratitude journal.
  6. Learn to forgive.  Accept what is and make peace with it. Let go of fear, anger, guilt, regrets, and worrying, blaming, predicting, mistaking, labeling, personalizing, catastrophizing.  It will set you free to move forward in a positive way.
  7. Practice acts of kindness. Do one random act of kindness a day.  It will give you a sense of purpose.
  8. Invest in the ones you love and those within your life. Express positive emotions. Tell them today because tomorrow is never promised.
  9. Make sure that you are routinely getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night so that you awake refreshed and rejuvenated. Be sure to make your bed each morning. This will bring about a sense of accomplishment to start your day.
  10. Keep good company.  Attitudes affect others and are contagious.  Surround yourself with like-minded people.

Positive thinking contributes to your overall health and wellbeing as well.  If you keep your mind in a good shape, you will be less prone to depression and anxiety.

The benefits of positive thinking:

  1. Positive thinkers will have less stress and more control over the way they respond to negative situations. You will experience more joy and happiness by letting go and moving on. When you have a strong positive attitude you won’t give up on things.
  2. Finding the positive in a negative situation will help put your mind at ease, redirect your thinking and allow you to move forward with good intentions.
  3. A positive attitude will improve immune health and give you a better quality of life.
  4. Positive thinking boosts self-esteem. Focus on all of your good qualities. You’ll feel more confident in your daily life and when making decisions
  5. You will be more appreciative of the here and now. Positive thinkers find the lessons along the way.
  6. More success. Your attitude is an excellent predictor of your success. When you expect the best you will continue until you reach your goals.
  7. Positive thinkers inspire others to think positively. People are attracted to you solely because of your positive attitude will be around more often.
  8. A positive attitude attracts positive results. Believe in yourself and keep focusing on your goals.  Set daily goals or a to-do list.

How to get out of a momentary funk:

  1. Get Moving! Go for a walk. Change your location or your perspective.
  2. Get some fresh air
  3. Drink lots of water
  4. Read some inspirational quotes
  5. Take deep breaths
  6. Rest
  7. Call a friend
  8. Yoga! You are one class away from a good mood.
  9. Essential oils.  Here is a great diffuser blend recipe:  1 drop Myrrh, 1 drop Eucalyptus, 1 drop lime

We all go through certain phases and challenges in our lives and sometimes we may need to take a step back and reassess our situation.  If you’ve been in a funk or spend too much of your energy in a negative state it’s the perfect season to turn it around! It may not come easily but I challenge you to spring forward with a positive attitude. Challenge yourself to add at least one brain exercise a day.

 Sincerely,

 Positive Patty

6 Ways You Can Choose to Be Happy!

Make Yourself

  Again!

When you’re living in a funk from day-to-day, it is hard to find things to smile about. It’s hard to find some refreshing positivity. But, the truth is, it is up to you. You can wallow in misery, but if you want things to change – if you want to find your smile again – you’re the one who has to make it happen.

Here are some of the ways to make yourself happy.

Thank Your Pillow

Get a boost of delight from thanking objects and what they do for you.  When you wake in the morning, put your hands together like a Buddhist monk, bow your head and say, “Thank you, pillow, for the dreams you have given me.” Try this with your bed, blanket, pj’s and shoes. Do it to as many things as you like.

Smack a Smile on Your Face

Leave your worries and boredom at the door. Make every entrance a bright one.  Whenever you’re walking through a door, imagine there’s a smile hanging from the top of the door sill. As you walk through the door, grab that smile and smack it on your face, like you’re putting a cover over your mouth.  Imagine that whatever worries or boring thoughts you may have had just got smile smacked out of you when you walked through the door.

Take a 30-Second U-Turn Back to Happy-Ville

Here’s how to get yourself back to happy-ville when you meet a silly little drama. When you get frustrated or upset, take a 30-second pause. For the first five seconds, you acknowledge the bad moment. For the remaining 25 seconds, you let the frustration or irritating feeling go by, imagining that you have arrived at this silly little drama-ville and you see it for what it is. Then you U-turn back to happy-ville.  Just remember, the only person who can put a dent in your happiness is you. You always can return to happiness.

Create a Happy Folder on Your Phone

One of the simplest ways to make yourself happy is to create a special “happy folder” of photos on your phone. The easiest way to do this is to browse through your photos and move the ones that bring a grin to your face to the happy folder. Don’t forget to add happy, inspiring Facebook photos too.  Now, when you feel bored, miserable, or hurt, launch your happy folder and feel the happiness oozing back into you again.

Pat Your Back to Brighten Up Your Feelings

Here’s a quick and easy way to lift your feelings up. Once you’ve successfully done something, raise your right or left hand, pat yourself on the back, and say something like, “Way to go, (your name)!”

You can do this any time of the day to give yourself a little pick-me-up delight.

Give a Surprise That Will Make You Smile

When you’re feeling bored or down, you can perk yourself up by surprising someone who is important to you. Buy a present or do something special or unique. You can try washing their car, mowing their lawn, or shoveling their snow without telling them. Just do it and imagine the surprise on their face when they see what some kind soul has done for them.  Of course, you can let them know it was you. Either way, you’ll be filled with a whole lot of merry pride.

Now Go Turn Funky Days into Sweet Delight!

Living in the funk is no fun, especially when it feels like there’s no way out. But escape is possible and there are ways to make yourself happy. You just have to take charge of things and actively seek out happiness every day. The takeaway is that it’s up to YOU to turn each day into sweet delight.

You Are Exactly Where You Need to Be!

“Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather, it is a tapestry of events that culminate into an exquisite, sublime plan…”

-Serendipity

Serendipity is one of my favorite words in the English language.  Also known as a fortunate accident.  Being in the right or wrong place at the right time. These are the moments of which we need to be mindful.  These are moments that add excitement, happiness and meaning to our lives!  We meet people throughout our lives, out of nowhere and under the strangest of circumstances.  I believe in fate and that people cross our paths for a reason either as a blessing or to teach us a lesson! I too believe that God has a divine plan for each and every one of us and these are the interwoven moments of our own beautiful tapestry called life.  Every experience, no matter how good or bad it may seem, holds within it a blessing of some kind.  Your goal is to find it! Every moment in your life has led you to this exact moment.  Everything that has happened in your life is preparing you for moments yet to come.  Trust the timing of your life! There’s no need to rush.  If something is meant to be, it’ll happen. In the right time, with the right person, and for the best reason. Never regret anything because at one time it was exactly what you needed.  These moments have molded you into the person you have become.  Learn from these moments.  Grow from these moments.  Live your life with intention and for goodness sakes, live it with Gumption!

Each day I strive to be a better person.  I genuinely want to make the world a better place simply by positively creating and contributing to my own space.  Each day, is a new day to wake up and embrace all the serendipitous moments!  Start each new day with a positive attitude.  Choose to look for happiness and the blessings in your life and focus on those.  The world is full of tragedy, hatred and inhumanity.  We can all rise above these obstacles, 1 day at a time.  It starts within ourselves. So love hard.  Have compassion.  Don’t be afraid of the truth, embrace it for what it is and what it is teaching you about life.  Accept the challenge. Stay true to yourself and choose happiness!

Sometimes we just need to take inventory of our lives and count the many blessings that we have been given.  We also need to ask ourselves, what is the Why behind everything that we do? Start living with intention instead of out of habit. Below are a few of the ways I choose happiness and to live my life with intent:

  1. Be grateful. Make a list of all the blessings in your life and appreciate them.
  2. Pay attention. Embrace the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Look for the life lesson it is bringing to you. Remember, it may not come easy but eventually you will find clarity.
  3. Make a list of your serendipitous moments to remind yourself of the tapestry of your life.
  4. Slow down. Remember, you are exactly where you are meant to be.
  5. Practice kindness. Do everything with a kind heart and expect nothing in return.
  6. Start each new day with a positive attitude. The energy that you give out will influence all of those around you.
  7. Stay true to yourself, keep focus on your vision and trust the process.
  8. Always remember that within you, you have strength, courage and passion.
  9. Surround yourself with people who are doers, believers, dreamers, but most of all surround yourself with those that see the greatness in you.
  10. Stay mindful, be present and actively participate in your own life!
